Ever heard of The Real Junk Food Project? Sounds pretty cool doesn’t it?
It is – They are a global, organic network of pay as you feel cafés, who divert food destined for waste and use it to create delicious and healthy meals.
Yes, you read that correctly – Healthy, tasty meals for as much or as little as you want to pay.
So why has the project come about?
FAO, 2011, recognized that roughly one third of the food that is produced in the world for human consumption every year, gets lost or wasted. That is approximately 1.3 billion tonnes. That is a lot of food.
FAO, 2015, also stated that around 795 million people around the world do not have enough food to lead a balanced and healthy lifestyle.
The Real Junk Food Project knew this had to change. Therefore their project was created, to a global scale.
What can GCL do?
We came across The Real Junk Food project via our social media accounts and believed it was a worthy cause that we could help.
We spoke to The Real Junk Food Project’s team and arranged to send large quantities of our unused stock to their warehouse in Leeds.
We will now be frequently supplying their warehouse with our unwanted and wasted stock.
We are pleased to be contributing towards a change in the environment and society, and for the UK and the rest of the world to be tasting a delicious ingredients.
